Film Review: ECHOES OF SILENCE (Hindi-English; UA)

ree

Lotus Global Studios’ Echoes Of Silence is an arthouse drama about loneliness, art, and memory.

Story & Screenplay:Aditi (Konkona Sen Sharma), a painter in Delhi, is left devastated after her husband’s sudden death. Struggling with grief, she starts painting again, only to realise her art reveals things about her marriage she never confronted. An intern journalist (Vikrant Massey) enters her life, questioning whether art is a mirror or an escape.

Nandita Das’ story is meditative but slow. Screenplay is deliberately paced, rich in atmosphere but thin in plot. Dialogues are sparse, relying more on silence and visual storytelling.

Performances:

  • Konkona Sen Sharma is outstanding, her silence more powerful than words.

  • Vikrant Massey brings charm and sincerity.

  • Naseeruddin Shah, in a cameo as a mentor, leaves a mark.

Direction & Technicals:Directed by Nandita Das with poetic sensitivity. Cinematography (Avik Mukhopadhyay) uses natural light beautifully. Music is minimalistic, relying on silences. Editing by A. Sreekar Prasad is artistic though meandering.

Overall:A moving but niche film — perfect for festivals and OTT, not for mainstream.

Box Office:Extremely limited theatrical prospects, but strong critical acclaim.
