More than two decades after How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days became one of the defining romantic comedies of its era, the property is preparing for another chapter, with Kate Hudson attached to produce a sequel currently in development.

The original film became particularly memorable because of the chemistry between Hudson’s Andie Anderson and Matthew McConaughey’s Benjamin Barry, turning what begins as competing professional schemes into a romantic comedy built around escalating misunderstandings.

Revisiting the property now reflects Hollywood’s continuing interest in recognisable titles, but romantic comedy presents a different challenge from action or fantasy franchises. Audiences are unlikely to respond simply because they recognise the title; the new story will need a convincing emotional reason for these characters and this world to return.

Hudson’s involvement as a producer could therefore prove important. Having one of the original film’s central creative faces involved gives the sequel a direct connection with what audiences remember while allowing the concept to evolve for a contemporary generation.

The development also arrives during a broader revival of interest in romantic comedy across theatrical and streaming entertainment. After years in which the genre increasingly migrated toward digital platforms, successful recent projects have demonstrated that audiences remain interested in accessible, star-driven romance when the concept and chemistry connect.

The biggest question will now be how the sequel balances nostalgia with a story capable of standing independently. If it can rediscover the playful chemistry and character-driven humour that gave the original its staying power, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days could become another legacy title successfully reintroduced to modern audiences.
