Snoop Dogg Biopic Adds Its Notorious B.I.G. as Universal Builds Out the Rap Icon’s Screen Story

The upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic is expanding the world around its central subject with another major piece of hip-hop history.

SwayvoTwain has been cast as Christopher Wallace, better known as the Notorious B.I.G. Bentley Green will portray RBX and G Perico will play Big Reecie Cup, while Jonathan Daviss leads the film as Snoop Dogg.

Casting the World Around Snoop

A music biopic cannot function only through its central performance when the subject's career was shaped by an entire cultural movement.

Snoop's rise intersects with Death Row Records, West Coast hip-hop, collaborators, rivals and artists whose careers collectively defined an era.

That makes casting figures such as Biggie more than a cameo exercise. Their presence helps establish the cultural and musical environment in which Snoop's own story unfolded.

Music Is Likely to Be One of the Film's Biggest Assets

Snoop Dogg is producing the project, which is expected to incorporate music from his catalogue. Brian Grazer, Allan Mandelbaum and Sara Ramaker are also among the producers.

Access to the music is crucial.

Some music biopics struggle because rights restrictions prevent them from using the songs audiences most strongly associate with the artist. This project begins from a fundamentally different position because its subject is directly involved.

The challenge will instead be narrative: Snoop Dogg's career stretches across music, film, television, business and pop culture. Finding a dramatic spine capable of turning decades of history into one coherent film will be as important as recreating the famous faces around him.
