Film Review: OF THE WEST (Marathi; UA)

Updated: Sep 9

Chhatrapati Creations’ Warrior Of The West is a historical epic about forgotten Maratha battles.

Story & Screenplay:The film chronicles Tanaji Malusare’s cousin, Keshav Malusare (Thakur Anoop Singh), who fought to protect the Maratha empire after Tanaji’s death. His bravery against the Mughals forms the core of the story.

Story lacks freshness since similar tales have been seen, but screenplay adds patriotic fervor. Dialogues are heavy with period flavor.

Performances:

  • Thakur Anoop Singh is physically impressive but emotionally stiff.

  • Amruta Khanvilkar is graceful and strong as his wife.

  • Mukesh Rishi as Mughal commander is formidable.

  • Kishori Shahane adds depth in a supporting role.

Direction & Technicals:Directed by Digpal Lanjekar, known for his historicals, the film has grandeur but weak CGI in war scenes. Music by Ajay-Atul is rousing. Cinematography is majestic. Action sequences, though ambitious, are uneven. Editing could be sharper.

Overall:Patriotic and visually striking, but lacks emotional punch.

Box Office:Will attract audiences in Maharashtra, especially rural belts, but not beyond.
