Story & Screenplay

Kapkapiii follows six friends Manu (Shreyas Talpade), Rivin (Abhishek Kumar), Nanku (Jay Thakkar), Achyut (Dinkar Sharma), Nirup (Varun Pandey), and Vijay (Dheerendra Tiwari) whose fascination with a Ouija board leads them into chaos. The top-floor residents of their building, Kavya (Siddhi Idnani) and Madhu (Sonia Rathee), get entangled in the supernatural events. Things get stranger when Manu’s friend Kabir (Tusshar Kapoor) arrives, adding suspense and intrigue.

Based on Jithu Madhavan’s Malayalam film Romancham, the story by Saurabh Anand and Kumar Priyadarshi lacks cohesion. The screenplay is episodic, with some funny scenes and some horror sequences, but very few land with consistent impact. Many incidents remain unresolved, leaving the audience with a scattered experience. Dialogues are serviceable but unremarkable.

Performances

  • Shreyas Talpade is highly entertaining as Manu; his comic timing is noteworthy.

  • Tusshar Kapoor is fantastic as Kabir, elevating the intrigue and drama.

  • Abhishek Kumar is endearing as Rivin; Jay Thakkar makes his mark as Nanku.

  • Dinkar Sharma and Varun Pandey are competent in their roles, while Dheerendra Tiwari is effective as Vijay.

  • Siddhi Idnani is fair as Kavya; Sonia Rathee is reasonable as Madhu.

  • Zakir Hussain and Dibyendu Bhattacharya deliver notable support. Other cast members largely pass muster without leaving a lasting impression.

Direction & Technical Aspects

Direction by Sangeeth Sivan is average. The film fails to fully deliver either as a laugh riot or a chilling horror.

  • Music (Ajay Jayanthi) and lyrics (Ginny Diwan, Saurabh Anand, Ajay Jayanthi) are adequate but unremarkable.

  • Background score is decent; cinematography by Deep Sawant is quite good.

  • Choreography (Chinni Rekha Prakash) and production design (Rupesh Kumar Pandey) are functional.

  • Editing by Bunty Nagi could have been sharper to improve pacing.

Final Verdict

Kapkapiii has its moments of comedy and intrigue, but they are too few to make a lasting impact. With an inconsistent screenplay and average direction, the film is likely to go largely unnoticed at the box office.

Box Office: Below-average prospects; likely to be overlooked.
