FILM REVIEW: CHAND MERA DIL

REVIEW BY SUYASH PACHAURI

GLOBAL BOLLYWOOD | DIRECTOR'S DAILY CLAPBOARD

Introduction

Romantic dramas often work when audiences emotionally connect with the journey rather than the destination. Viewers do not always demand a complex story; sometimes sincerity, chemistry, and honest emotions are enough. Chand Mera Dil arrives with all the ingredients of a modern love story youthful energy, attractive visuals, emotional moments, and polished presentation. On paper, it appears like a film designed to deliver warmth and emotional connection.

Unfortunately, what begins with promise slowly turns into an emotionally distant experience. The film continuously asks audiences to feel deeply, but rarely gives enough reason to become invested. Despite all its visual charm, the emotional core remains surprisingly weak.

Screenplay & Script Sense

The screenplay becomes the biggest issue and ultimately affects nearly every department of the film. Initially the story creates curiosity and gives viewers hope that it is building toward something meaningful. However, as the narrative progresses, the writing starts repeating itself. Emotional situations begin feeling stretched, important moments arrive without proper buildup, and conversations continue longer than necessary.

Instead of allowing emotions to grow naturally, the script repeatedly forces dramatic situations and expects instant emotional connection. Relationships move according to screenplay convenience rather than character development. The film confuses emotional intensity with emotional depth, and that difference becomes increasingly visible as the story progresses.

Direction

Vivek Soni shows sincerity and clearly understands visual mood creation. There is effort in how scenes are staged and how emotional moments are presented. He attempts to create intimacy and softness throughout the film and succeeds visually in several places. Certain moments look aesthetically beautiful and emotionally delicate.

However, direction alone cannot compensate for storytelling weaknesses. Several scenes appear visually stronger than they feel emotionally. The film often prioritizes atmosphere over narrative rhythm, resulting in a beautiful presentation that lacks stronger emotional foundation. The intention remains visible, but execution feels inconsistent.

Acting

Lakshya as Arjun delivers one of the more sincere performances in the film and manages to hold several scenes together despite uneven writing. He brings emotional restraint and avoids unnecessary exaggeration. His performance remains grounded and believable throughout. Ananya Panday as Chandni also appears more comfortable and confident compared to some of her earlier work.

She handles lighter scenes naturally and attempts emotional moments with visible effort. Aastha Singh, Pratham Rathod, and Resad Ajim provide support within the narrative and perform their parts sincerely, although the screenplay does not give them enough material to create a stronger impact. Together, the cast shares decent chemistry in parts, though the writing never fully allows the relationships to become deeply memorable. The performances often work harder than the screenplay itself.

Cinematography

Cinematography easily becomes one of the strongest departments of the film. Visually Chand Mera Dil understands romance far better than its screenplay. The frames look soft, locations appear attractive, and lighting successfully creates emotional atmosphere. Quiet moments are captured beautifully and several scenes gain emotional value through presentation alone. The visuals frequently carry emotional weight that the writing struggles to provide. Even during weaker narrative portions, cinematography keeps the film visually engaging and watchable.

Music & Background Score

Music and background score deliver a mixed experience. Some songs fit naturally within the film's emotional setting and help maintain the romantic mood. Background score remains restrained and avoids becoming unnecessarily loud. Silence is also used effectively in certain scenes. However, not every musical moment creates impact. Several tracks pass without leaving a lasting impression and the soundtrack overall lacks memorable emotional power. While music supports the scenes, it rarely elevates them.

Editing

Editing becomes another noticeable weakness throughout the film. Several scenes continue longer than necessary and begin affecting overall pacing. Emotional moments occasionally overstay their welcome and transitions between important scenes sometimes feel abrupt. The second half particularly suffers because narrative momentum starts slowing down considerably. Tighter editing could have improved flow and strengthened audience engagement. The issue is not runtime itself; the issue is how heavily the runtime begins to feel.

Final Verdict

Chand Mera Dil is a film that sincerely wants to create emotional impact but repeatedly struggles to achieve genuine connection. It looks visually attractive, contains performances that work in parts, and creates occasional moments of warmth. However, weak writing and uneven pacing prevent it from becoming emotionally memorable. The film has ambition and sincerity, but stronger storytelling foundations were necessary to transform good intentions into a satisfying cinematic experience. For romance lovers there may still be moments worth appreciating, but for many viewers this may become a one-time watch that fades quickly after the credits roll.
