Film Review: The Legend Of Sudarshan Chakra

ree

Nandi Pictures Pvt. Ltd.’s The Legend Of Sudarshan Chakra, released last week in Gujarat, Delhi-U.P., and East Punjab, is a sequel to The Rise Of Sudarshan (2023). The film attempts to trace the journey of Jain saint Sudarshan Lal Maharaj and his mission to encourage family unity and steer society away from vices. Unfortunately, while the intent behind the project is noble, the execution leaves much to be desired.

Anil Kulchainiya, who has written both the story and screenplay, keeps the drama centered firmly on the saint’s teachings. While this ensures that the film will resonate with Maharaj’s followers, the narrative is too one-dimensional to draw in viewers outside that circle. The dialogues, instead of inspiring or elevating the material, come across as ordinary and fail to create a lasting impact.

The performances by Vivek Anand Mishra, Atul Tiwari, Himani Shivpuri, and Anant Mahadevan are fair but do not rise above the limitations of the script. None of the characters are given the kind of depth or complexity that might have allowed the actors to leave a stronger impression.

On the technical front, the film falters further. Anil Kulchainiya’s direction lacks the sharpness needed to bring spiritual storytelling alive on screen. Satish Dehra’s music is serviceable, while Sudhakar Sharma’s lyrics are in sync with the devotional tone but remain functional rather than memorable. Dharmendra Jawda’s background score fails to heighten the emotional pull of the film. S. Kumar Bhagat’s camerawork does not succeed in creating a visually appealing canvas, and the editing by Gul-Sahil feels loose, robbing the film of rhythm and pace.

Verdict: The Legend Of Sudarshan Chakra is a well-intentioned project but a weakly executed one. It may find some appreciation among devoted followers of Sudarshan Lal Maharaj, but for the larger audience, the lack of engaging storytelling, impactful performances, and technical finesse makes it a forgettable experience.
