Story & Screenplay

Sweet Dreams (UA) revolves around two strangers who mysteriously dream about each other.

Kenneth Fernandes (Amol Parashar), an artist from Bombay, repeatedly dreams of a girl he has never met. At the same time, Dia (Mithila Palkar), living in Pune and in a relationship with Ishan (Meiyang Chang), has similar dreams of a boy unknown to her. It gradually emerges that Kenneth and Dia dream of each other, with their dreams being identical.

Seeking answers, Kenneth consults psychologist Dr. Bose (Faye D’Souza), who advises him to take a break. On a trip to Alibaug with friends Akash (Sukkarann Vats) and Nubra (Ayesha Adlakha), Kenneth catches a glimpse of Dia and tries to follow her, only for her to disappear. The film then explores whether Kenneth and Dia truly meet, the reason behind their mysterious dreams, and if destiny brings them together.

Victor Mukherjee’s story holds intrigue but lacks depth. The screenplay keeps viewers curious but never fully engaged, while the dialogues (by Alka Shukla and Victor Mukherjee) are average. The film often feels stretched and fails to convert its concept into an emotionally compelling narrative.

Performances

  • Amol Parashar delivers a sincere and believable performance as Kenneth.

  • Mithila Palkar portrays Dia with charm and conviction.

  • Meiyang Chang is fair as Ishan.

  • Sauraseni Maitra is decent as Roop Datta.

  • Ayesha Adlakha (Nubra) is okay, while Sukkarann Vats (Akash) is ordinary.

  • Faye D’Souza makes a modest impression as Dr. Bose.

  • Mohini Shimpi (Tanushree) and Vandana Pathak (Dia’s mother) lend routine support. The supporting cast is serviceable but doesn’t leave a strong mark.

Technical Aspects

  • Direction: Victor Mukherjee’s handling is fair but lacks the ability to sustain consistent audience engagement.

  • Music & Background Score: Jam8’s work is below expectations; songs are average though the lyrics (Anjali Khandelwal, Shloke Lal) are good.

  • Cinematography: Honoz V.K. captures visuals effectively.

  • Production Design: Nimishi Misra – appropriate.

  • Editing: Manikandan Nayakam’s editing is fairly sharp, though the film’s slow pace reduces impact.

Verdict

Sweet Dreams begins with an intriguing premise but ends up being a case of much ado about nothing. Despite decent performances and a unique concept, the film fails to engage consistently and leaves only a fleeting impression.
