Film Review: Kraven The Hunter (Dubbed)

ree

Marvel’s Kraven The Hunter (A) is a dark superhero origin film that entertains in parts but lacks emotional heft.

Story & Screenplay

Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), son of a ruthless drug lord (Russell Crowe), grows up estranged from his father and later turns into a vigilante hunter. As he confronts mercenaries and rivals, he must face his own family’s corruption.Richard Wenk’s story is routine, and the screenplay (Wenk, Art Marcum & Matt Holloway) mixes thrill with predictability. Some sequences are engaging, but others drag. The emotional quotient is underwhelming.

Performances & Technicals

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is solid as Kraven, excelling in action and intensity. Ariana DeBose impresses as Calypso. Russell Crowe is superb as the father, while Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, and Christopher Abbott lend credible support.Direction by J.C. Chandor is patchy, with flashes of brilliance but little consistency. Action is thrilling at intervals. Background score (Benjamin Wallfisch & team) is impactful, cinematography (Ben Davis) strong, but editing (Chris Lebenzon, Craig Wood) could be sharper.

Verdict

Kraven The Hunter is a fair entertainer with limited novelty. The Hindi dubbed version will do ordinary business due to lack of buzz.
