Story & Screenplay

Kuberaa revolves around Deva (Dhanush), a beggar who becomes the unwitting pawn in a wealthy businessman’s (Jim Sarbh as Neeraj Mitra) scheme to siphon crores of rupees via Swiss bank accounts. Neeraj enlists ex-CBI officer Deepak (Nagarjuna) to carry out the transactions, systematically eliminating the other beggars involved. Deva, however, proves to be smarter than expected and turns the tables on his adversaries.

While the premise has potential, the story and screenplay by Sekhar Kammula and Chaithanya Pingali are routine and lack novelty. The narrative is slow, the entertainment quotient is minimal, and the emotions and humour that could have balanced the thriller elements are almost absent. Romance is superficial, and dialogues by Divya Prakash Dubey and Krushnakant Jonnalgadda are ordinary. The drama fails to grip the audience or generate genuine tension.

Performances

  • Dhanush delivers a solid performance as Deva, convincingly portraying intelligence and resilience.

  • Jim Sarbh is fine as the cunning Neeraj Mitra.

  • Nagarjuna is nice as ex-CBI officer Deepak, though the character is underwritten.

  • Rashmika Mandana is adequate as Sameera.

  • Supporting performances by Dalip Tahil, Sayaji Shinde, Sunaina, Hareesh Peradi, and others are routine or average, without leaving a lasting impact.

Direction & Technical Aspects

  • Sekhar Kammula’s direction is ordinary; the film lacks engagement and fails to elevate the weak script.

  • Devi Sri Prasad’s music includes a couple of fair numbers, but most tracks are unremarkable. Background score is adequate.

  • Lyrics by Raqueeb Alam are serviceable.

  • Song picturisations by Sekhar VJ are visually appealing.

  • Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography is decent and captures the visual scope of the film.

  • Action and stunts by Sridhar provide limited thrill but are not spectacular.

  • Production design by Thota Tharani is average.

  • Editing by Karthika Srinivas feels loose and affects pacing. Dubbing is acceptable.

Final Verdict

On the whole, Kuberaa is a flop show. The weak story, uninspired screenplay, minimal humour and emotion, and slow pacing prevent the film from engaging the audience. Despite decent performances from Dhanush and Jim Sarbh, the film lacks the tension, thrill, and entertainment necessary for a successful action thriller.

Box Office Potential: Low; unlikely to make an impact.
